The Latin-American Meeting of Design calls students, teachers and professionals to taking part of the contest of posters "LA MIRADA DE NOSOTROS - LATINOAMERICA HOY" ["THE LOOK OF US - LATIN AMERICA TODAY"].

This contest, which will be accompanied by a exhibition and a book - publication, proposes to assemble and to spread the best posters of the Latin-American current design.

Cards of Inscription:
In every category it is necessary to complete the card of inscription of the poster and a card for every author of the poster. According to the category of the work enter to the card of corresponding inscription.

Remember to have all the needed information for the inscription of the poster and its authors at the moment to complete the respective forms.

"THE LOOK OF US - LATIN AMERICA TODAY" it is a contest destined to stimulate the creativity, diversity, heterogeneity and richness of the designers, bearing witness to the increasing hierarchy of the design as discipline and profession in the continent.

To value the look, formed of posters, of the group of Latin American designers it is the aim of this project stimulated by the Forum of Schools of Design [Foro de Escuelas de Diseño] that assembles to more than 67 educational institutions of design of Latin América.

Framed in the extent of the summons, the juror will centre its approach on the aesthetic, communication and cultural conjunction of the presented pieces.

The treatment of the image, the used resources, the personal style and the experimental search are aspects valued for the summons.

The subject matter of the poster is free, focused on the look on the current importance, diversity and integration of the Latin-American design. Works will be able to be sent created specially or already used previously. It is not a condition that the works are unpublished.

They will be able to take part, in an individual or grupal way, all the professionals, teachers and students who wish it, without any class of limitation or exclusion.

The contest contemplates four categories: professionals, students, chairs and companies of design.

The contest glimpses three stages:

1. Exhibition of the works pre-selected
2. Prizes and mentions
3. Itinerant Exhibition and book/publication of the selected works

1. Exhibition of the works pre-selected

Of the received works, the organizing Committee will do a preselection to organize the graphical and / or digital exhibition that under the denomination "Latin America designs posters" will be exposed during the development of the second Latin-American Meeting of Design (July 31 to August 3, 2007) to take place in Palermo, Buenos Aires.

There are waited a summons of 5000 professionals, students and companies of design of Latin America. All the activities of the Meeting are free.

The respective catalogue will be edited with reference to all the received pieces, be or not included in the exhibition.

2. Prizes and mentions

The Juror, presided by Felipe Taborda - member of Honor's Committee of the Latin American Meeting of Design – and compound by all the representatives (that there are present in occasion of the Meeting) of the institutions participants of the Forum of Schools of Design, will choose the prizes and mentions. In each of four categories it will be chosen a first, second and third prize. It is contemplated that the first prizes have economic remuneration.

The Juror will choose special mentions for every country participant. This way, the design of every Latin-American country will be able to be present in the itinerant Exhibition and in the book/publication.
The public of the Meeting, acting as juror, will choose the "Prizes of the Public".

3. Itinerant Exhibition and book/publication of the selected works 

All the rewarded and mentioned works in the categories above, will be part of an itinerant exhibition offered to all the institutions members of the Forum in order that they organize and exhibit it in their countries and respective schools.

A selection of the rewarded and mentioned works will integrate the book/publication that will document the contest.

PRESENTATION

The posters will have to be presented - without exception - in agreement to the following requirements:

Format: 25 cm x 34 cm, vertical or horizontal, in digital format jpg to 300 dpi. file weight does not have to exceed 5 MB.

Presentation: Every work must be registered by the following way:
The digital file of the poster must be named in the following way: surname of author_name of author.jpg (and number of poster presented in case of there being more than one) or company of design.jpg (and number of poster presented in case of there being more than one) or name of chair.jpg (and number of posters presented in case of there being more than one). It is important that the name of the file has neither spaces nor characters that are not letters or numbers.

Quantity of works: Every participant or group of participants will be able to present up to 3 works. Every works, which can be an alone piece or a series, will have to be registered separately by the corresponding identification.

Registration of the work: the author/s of every poster must report if it is an unpublished work or if, on the contrary, it has been made before the summons, indexing in the latter case the circumstance it was created for. In these cases, there will be accepted only works produced from the year 2005.

The Organization can add at the bottom of every poster similar texts as the following ones:

• 2º Encuentro Latinoamericano de Diseño [2 º Latin-American Meeting of Design]
• 31 de julio al 3 de agosto de 2007 [July the 31 till August the 3rd, 2007]

• Datos básicos del autor, categoría y premio obtenido si corresponde. [Key data of the author/s, category and obtained prize if it corresponds]

Some received works can be used, yet before the opinion of the juror, to broadcast the editions of the Latin-American Meeting of Design across its publications. In this case, the Organization will be able to incorporate to the poster the necessary legends.

DEADLINE

Awards Ceremony

Will take place on Friday, the 3rd of August, 2007.

If the winner is not present there will be delivered a copy of the correspondent diploma to a representative of his/her country / city / university belonged to the Forum of Schools of Design. In this case, the prize with its respective diploma will be sent by post to the author.

IMPORTANT

The competitors whose works are selected yield his/her rights of exhibition, diffusion and publication to the Forum of Schools of Design and to the School of Design and Communication of the University of Palermo, which will be able to use them as estimate suitable.

The fact of taking part in this contest supposes from the participant to have knowledge and accept its bases and conditions. The School of Design and Communication of the University of Palermo saves itself the right to resolve any interpretation, situation or circumstance not explicit or not foreseen in the present summons.

The School of Design and Communication, as organizing of the second Latin-American Meeting of Design, will be the person in charge of the pre-selection for the exhibition "Latin America designs" that will be realized during the Meeting and of the guardianship of the itinerant exhibition and of the book /publication "THE LOOK OF US - LATIN AMERICA TODAY".
